Chihuahua is an antisocial dog; therefore, you need to train him on how to interact with others. For him to listen you, you need to ensure that he understands that you are the leader. This is because he is very independent; therefore, it's common for him to take the leadership role.
For him to know that you are the pack leader, you should do things that show that you are the leader. The first thing that you should do is to get in through the door first. When you are together, you should always ensure that you are the first to get through the door.
You should also always eat first. As rule of thumb you should only give him something to eat only after you have eaten.
If you are walking and the Chihuahua is lying on the floor, you should not circle around him. Instead of this you should make him move out of your way.
Other than establishing yourself as the leader, another great way of making it easy for you to train the dog is by building a strong bond. Here you need to spend quality time together. You should also take him out in the world and experience life together.
Once you have established yourself as the pack leader, you will easily make him listen to you. The first thing that you should train him on is his name. To make sure that he recognizes his name, you should take a treat in your hand and hold it away from your body.
You should then call his name. When you do this he will most likely look at the treat in your hand. You should continue calling his name until he turns and looks at your eyes and immediately he looks you in the eyes you should give him the treat immediately. You should repeat this exercise until you are sure that he has learned his name.
Other than training him on how to know his name, you should also potty train him. You should note that you need to be patient in your training. You also need to encourage him in the training by giving him treats.
